The Shrine of St. Benedict of the Open door is one of the great attractions of Gerês.
The Shrine of St. Benedict of the open door is a Portuguese Catholic sanctuary, located in the parish of Rio broth, in lands of Bouro. It originated in 1615, with the construction of a small hermitage.
The current sanctuary is from the end of the nineteenth century. It began its reconstruction in 1880 and concluded in 1895.
The designation of Saint Benedict of the Open door is due to the fact that the Hermitage always has its doors open, serving as shelter to travellers.
In 2013 to receive the basilica classification was performed the requalification of the Chapel-Mor at the level of the lecturn, improvements in lighting and demarcation.
It receives annually 2.5 million of pilgrims being the second largest Portuguese sanctuary, after Fatima, even if it does not present a favorable geographical situation, nor be benefited by relevant channels of communication.
The sanctuary was elevated to the lesser basilica by Pope Francis on March 21, 2015 in commemoration of its 400 years of existence.

Mata de Albergaria
The Mata de Albergaria is one of the most important forests of the National Park of Peneda Gerês (PNPG), constituted predominantly by a secular oakwood that includes characteristic species of the fauna and Flora Geresianas.
It also holds a section of the Roman Way-Geira-with the ruins of its bridges and a significant set of Marcos milestones.
The low human presence in this forest has not broken until a few years ago the fragile balance of its ecosystem, whose richness and variety contributed to its classification by the Council of Europe, as one of the biogenetic reserves of the European continent.
It is also, in accordance with the Park planning plan, classified as a partial protection zone of the Natural environment area.
